Sledding fun
Rapid Ride on two Runners
Winter sports do not necessarily have to be skiing or snowboarding.
The Ahrn Valley it is among the areas of South Tyrol most certain to have snow, which guarantees sledding fun every winter for every taste - from the little hill to a good downward slide to a demonic descent for the especially daring.
The longest toboggan run in the Ahrntal and even in South Tyrol, is located in the skiing area Speikboden and measures 10 kilometres. Other great toboggan runs are located in Weißenbach, Mühlwald, Rein in Taufers, Uttenheim and Kasern. Especially popular in our area is also the night tobogganing on illuminated slopes or on full moon evenings.
The Tamarix Family park, the Family Skilift in Weißenbach and the Sunkid magic carpet in Kasern offer, besides a conveyor for beginners, a sledge run and „tubing“ run.
But the Highlight is the „Alpine Coaster“ in the skiing area Klausberg; a special adrenaline rush on rails!
Cross-country skiing in the Ahrntal Valley
Always towards the sun
Cross-country skiers may enjoy a total of 51 kilometres of runs in the Ahrntal Valley. Perfectly prepared and with snow guaranteed, the runs in Rein in Taufers, Mühlwald/Lappach, Kasern and Weißenbach are in operation from December until April.
In Rein in Taufers and Mühlwald/Lappach there are the longest runs – 15 and 16 km. In Rein, you can choose between four trails of different difficulties.
The cross-country Sun Trail Kasern is particularly spoilt by the sun. Furthermore, it is mainly made of natural snow and does not need any snow canon. Here, you can skate on 3 to 10 kilometres along the valley in direction of its end, with a slight rise of the track.
The medium difficult circular run of Weißenbach starts on 1,334 metres and rises constantly to its end (110 m). You can choose between the red, blue or black trail, just as it pleases you.
There are of course many mountain huts at the end of the tracks and aside of them, where you can stop by and reward yourself with a savoury dish and a hot drink.
Snowshoeing & winter hiking, ski touring
Across snowy mountain sides
For some years, snowshoeing and winter hiking have been the flavour of the month in the Alps. Be it wading through freshly fallen snow with winter or snowshoes, enjoying the clear air and admiring the fabulous mountain panorama: many trails you’re walking on in summer are also suitable for a pleasant hike in the snow. When doing so, it doesn’t matter how fast you go. The only thing that matters is finding your own pace and enjoying the hike, because: the journey is the destination!
In the Ahrntal Valley, many simple as well as challenging hiking tours await, with a lot of mountains huts on the way: rustic alpine huts, spoiling you with exquisite goodies – a well-deserved reward after an extensive march through the glimmering snow.
Us too at Vitaurina Royal are great fans of snowshoeing and winter hikes and would like to recommend you our favourite tours:
Ski touring
in the famous Valley of the eighty 3.000 mountains
Those who want to hike AND ski, we warmly recommend to do ski touring: first you walk up the mountain, then you rush it down on aside of prepared slopes, just as you like it. Through pristine nature back to the valley. You should definitely try this special type of skiing, like our predecessors used to a 100 years ago when there was no lifts!
When snowshoeing, winter hiking and especially when ski touring it is crucial to get informed about avalanche risks and warnings of the chosen route in order to avoid unnecessary risks! Therefore, we invite our guests to always observe the warning sings and alert notices.
